Look Breakdown: Designing for Men with Restoration Hardware’s Spring Catalogue

Restoration Hardware’s Small Spaces catalogue– London Townhouse. Symmetry is the easiest way to create balance.

Perhaps you have noticed that I haven’t been posting much on interior design. The truth is that I haven’t been very inspired by the latest design projects, they all seem to blend in with each other, one neo-classical console after another. The lack of youthful energy left me unmoved. Until I was sent the latest Restoration Hardware catalogue. If you have never experienced the impressiveness of one of their catalogues, sign up for one now! It is practically an art book, filled with pages and pages of inspiration.

This season, they put together a fantastically conceptualized story called “Big Style, Small Spaces”, featuring their new product in 7 imagined homes around the world. Three of them- the London Townhouse, the New York Loft and the Boston Brownstone- showed extremely well conceived and styled masculine spaces, something you do not see very often in the interior design industry. And because of this gap, I was excited to focus my attention (and hopefully yours) on putting together an elegant, casual and stylish space for men. Restoration Hardware’s designs shows us a few key ways on how to pull it off.

This bedroom is styled perfectly: relaxed, elegant… It’s all about the casualness of the mid-toned linen, the slight wrinkle communicates effortless cool. Restoration Hardware.

The classic pedestal sink is perfectly contrasted here with the angles of the shelf and stool. Always go for polished nickel (reflective) in the bathroom, it will look cleaner and crisper than brushed nickel (matte). Restoration Hardware

Keep these ideas in mind and your off to a great start:

This area is all about leisure and interests: the shelves display books and prints that communicate your personality while the lounge chair invites you to sit and read books or magazines. Restoration Hardware

I have seen this in Thomas O’Brien’s work: dining tables can double as desks to save space.
