Many of us here in New York are both excited and apprehensive about the sudden change of season. Just a week ago we were braving 30 degree weather and now the city is enjoying incredible highs. Every morning feels like Russian Roulette, guessing what might be the appropriate outerwear to sport. However, as always, the fashion world exists beyond reality and Spring trends are being showcased regardless of the outside temperatures. After saturating myself with far too many Spring fashion articles, I decided that I need to narrow them down to 5. The criteria for this selections is of course whether or not it is wearable but also if they are a taking a risk. For some of you these trends may not be risky, but for me and my daily black uniform, this is going outside the norm.

Here’s the final 5:

1. Citrus and Neutral: This is perhaps the only way that I see myself adopting bright hues into my wardrobe. To keep you from looking like you go to play-school, make sure that the shape and material of the piece is still sophisticated and fashion forward. Bold necklaces, high-heeled sandals, and silk see-through tops fit this bill.

2. Outer-space Metallics: I can’t help but laugh when I think of this trend. It takes me back to the early 2000s when boy-bands were singing ballads from space. But I have to say, I am a fan of this resurgent trend. Metallic fabrics should be worn as evening-wear and should be paired with a dark smokey eye and straight hair.

3. White Bags: Because white exposes the details of the bag, make sure that you find one that is of the highest quality. Don’t go for a cheap version, or it will end up making the rest of your outfit look cheap.

4. Nude Shorts: This one is simple, either choose a pair that is darker than your skin tone or lighter. This is only the case for fabrics such as denim. When is comes to silk nude tops, any shade will do as long as it compliments you.

5. Colorful Shagreen: Thanks to the brilliance of Ricardo Tisci’s collection for Givenchy, this season is all about exotic materials. Shagreen is one of my favorites and will make any outfit look instantly chicer. As always, keep the rest of your outfit simple if you choose to include colorful shagreen.
